MYLA

(Muslim Youth-Leadership Alliance)

Program Summary

Just before Ramadan of 2022, the Islamic Center of Pittsburgh revived the YANE program. YANE (Young Adults – Nurturing Excellence) is a youth initiative designed to strengthen the foundation of Islamic knowledge, build meaningful friendships, and develop leadership skills among our youth. Through weekly halaqas, interactive learning, and engaging trips outside the masjid, YANE provides a well-rounded space for growth and connection.

Under the YANE umbrella is MYLA (Muslim Youth Leadership Academy)—a specialized track for teen girls. MYLA offers its own series of sessions, outings, and activities that focus on building leadership, confidence, and sisterhood in a supportive Islamic environment. Together, YANE and MYLA work hand-in-hand to nurture the next generation of Muslim leaders while creating spaces that are fun, faith-driven, and empowering.

Participation is not limited to members of the ICP masjid. We encourage youth from all over the Pittsburgh area to join the program and strengthen the networking, and alliance section of the YANE program.

To aid in the expenses of food, materials and preparation for the teen program, a fee will be required along with registration.

This program is open to all Muslim teens ages 13 and up. We’ve adjusted the format so there’s no longer a strict age limit—our focus is on creating a space where younger girls can benefit from positive role models and older girls can develop and practice leadership skills.

MYLA will meet every other Friday after school 6:00 to 8:00PM.
