"Duty to the Neighbors: Excellence of Islamic Law in the Days of Turbulence"The Islamic Center of Pittsburgh (ICP) welcomes the public and media representatives to its 17th Annual Humanity Day celebration. Every year, during the month of Ramadan, members of the public are invited to share in the breaking of the fast with our congregation on Humanity Day. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet with members of the eclectic Muslim community of Pittsburgh and to observe the ritual ceremonies of the holy month of Ramadan. The ICP recognizes the significance of building bridges of understanding between the Muslim community and the Pittsburgh community at large.
This year, we are delighted to have Imam Ramez Islambouli as our keynote speaker. Imam Ramez Islambouli has an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering and a graduate degree in Bioethics, both from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH. He is an adjunct professor of Islamic law at the Law School and Islamic Studies in the Dept. of Religious Studies and a full-time lecturer and section head of Arabic language in the Dept. of Modern Languages and Literature at CWRU. Imam Ramez is currently working on his doctorate degree at Duquesne University. He has worked with different interfaith groups in Cleveland like Interact Cleveland, WeBelieve Ohio and others.
In Islamic Law or Shariah, the neighbors are given a very high regard, be they are Jews, Christians, Muslims or non believers. Our keynote speaker would explore the provisions in the Islamic law than guarantees the members of the public the right to safety and security in their homes and properties.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "By God, he does not believe! By God, he does not believe! By God, he does not believe!" When asked who he was referring to, the Prophet (peace be upon him) replied: "That person whose neighbor does not feel safe from his evil." - Sahih Al-Bukhari, Volume 8, Hadith 45
Quran (49:13): "O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each other (not that ye may despise (each other). Verily the most honored of you in the sight of Allah is (he who is) the most righteous of you. And Allah has full knowledge and is well acquainted (of all your doings)"

Children's Playground Dedication
For Immediate Release:
Islamic Center of Pittsburgh and Schenely Farms Civic Association Announce
Children's Playground Dedication and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
4100 Bigelow Blvd. Pittsburgh Pa 15213
August 7th 2009
2:00 pm
Guest of Honor Councilman Bill Peduto.Islamic Center of Pittsburgh (ICP) welcomes its neighbors, media professionals and the public to the new children’s playground dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony. The ceremony will take place immediately after the Friday congregational prayer. In attendance will be our neighbors, representatives of the Schenley Farms Civic Association and guest of honor councilman Bill Peduto.
ICP obtained the approval of the Zoning Board of Adjustment and the Historic Review Commission with the full support and backing of its immediate neighbors and SFCA. After meetings between ICP members and neighbors, presided over by Councilman Peduto, the current design was arrived at. In its current shape the playground is aesthetically pleasing, is in line with surrounding architecture, ensures the safety of the children and respects the privacy, noise and light levels in the neighborhood. Despite our initial differences we find the ultimate result to be a shining example of neighborly cooperation and respect in our beloved city.
ICP extends its heartfelt thanks to our neighbors for their genuine collaboration, to Councilman Peduto for his leadership and, last but not least, acknowledges the generous contribution made by SFCA toward the playground furniture.
