Alle-Kiski Area HOPE Center, Inc. - House of Hope

Transitional housing and supportive services to homeless women and women with children who have fled domestic violence. Services include life skills education and goal planning geared toward self-sufficiency and obtaining permanent housing by one year. Serves northeastern Allegheny County and northwestern Westmoreland County.

Bethlehem Haven - Emergency Shelter

The emergency shelter at Bethlehem Haven provides homeless women with a safe, clean environment and an opportunity to work with caring staff to assess their needs, develop a plan of services, and establish goals for reclaiming their lives.

Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Pittsburgh, Inc. St. Joseph House of Hospitality

Services provided to St. Joseph's residents include a single private room, three nutritious meals daily, and biweekly linen service. Drug and alcohol counseling and mental health services are provided by a network of service providers. Veterans' assistance, visiting nurses, podiatrist, and chaplain services are also available. Men who live at St. Joseph's also have access to free used clothing and they are encouraged to participate in volunteer opportunities. All prospective residents are interviewed by an administrative team.

East End Cooperative Ministry Shelter for Men

Men's Emergency Shelter offering dormitory-style housing on a first-come, first-served basis, to any male age 18 and older. Dinner and breakfast are provided, and shower facilities and case management services are available. Men are welcome to stay at the shelter for up to 60 nights each calendar year. Due to the proximity of the shelter to schools and daycare centers, men with a history of Megan's Law are not permitted to stay.

Family Promise - Second Circle Family Shelter

Shelter for displaced and homeless families. Helps families get back onto their feet by offering services like counseling, temporary housing, help finding a permanent home , searching for a job, social security, medical assistance and meals from local hosts. Family Day Center provides a safe, comfortable, place for homeless families who are staying in the shelter to spend their days, and a stable address from which they can work to establish financial independence.

Light of Life Rescue Mission Men's Emergency Shelter

In addition to safe sleeping quarters, Light of Life's Shelter Ministry for homeless men provides emergency overnight care that includes breakfast and dinner, a shower, clean clothing and personal care articles.

Northside Common Ministries Pleasant Valley Shelter

Emergency shelter for men, including meal, shower, laundry, clothes, counseling, and supportive services. Provides resource center and supportive services through outside agencies during the day. First-time clients must be at the shelter between 8 and 8:30 a.m. to apply for the night.

Womanspace East

Womanspace East, Inc. services include a 30 day emergency shelter, bridge and transitional housing for women and their dependent children. Case management and advocacy are available to clients only.

Women's Center and Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh

Emergency shelter for victims of intimate partner violence and their children, 24-hour hotline, information and referral, support groups, legal options counseling, and help through legal processes, medical advocacy. Literature, newsletter, speakers, and training/consultation on intimate partner and dating violence. Provides programs for children of women residing at the shelter. Also provides school-based violence prevention and children's counseling service.

Salvation Army - Family Caring Center

Emergency shelter for families, including couples and parents with children, who may have been evicted, victims of fire or domestic violence, or stranded in the city and in need of shelter. Crisis intervention is provided. Bridge Housing Program provided for families who have completed the Emergency Shelter Program; capacity 5 famili

MORTGAGE

ACTION-Housing, Inc. - Mortgage Assistance

Assists homeowners to avoid foreclosure through counseling, working with lenders, and applying to available programs; can also connect to additional social, health and financial resources as well as educational and employment opportunities. Serves Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Lawrence, Mercer, Washington, and Westmoreland counties.

NeighborWorks - Allegheny County

Provides free housing counseling services, homebuyer education and financial literacy courses. Foreclosure prevention services help homeowners whose mortgage delinquency is due to involuntary unemployment, adjustable rate resets, income disruption, family/medical emergency, or predatory lending.

Advantage Credit Counseling Service - Pittsburgh

Provides the following counseling services: budget, credit, bankruptcy, first time homebuyer, reverse mortgage and mortgage delinquency prevention. Debt Management Program available to assist clients in repayment of unsecured debt. Speakers available for group financial literacy workshops. Money management classes available at Pittsburgh office.

Making Home Affordable

Government program to help homeowners get mortgage relief and avoid foreclosure. Making Home Affordable programs offer a range of solutions that may be able to help:

  • Refinance and take advantage of low mortgage interest rates.
  • Reduce monthly mortgage payments
  • Get mortgage relief while searching for re-employment
  • Get help when you owe more than your home is worth
  • Avoid foreclosure when home ownership is no longer affordable or desirable.

Neighborhood Legal Services - Allegheny County

Provides free “civil” legal services to low income individuals and families without the means to hire a private attorney. Provides representation to survivors of domestic violence in Protection from Abuse proceedings. May provide direct representation, advice, assistance in self-representation, brief service/limited legal assistance or referral to a private attorney (including free and reduced-fee), depending on case. Provides community education on legal topics. Free interpretation services are provided to those with limited English abilities and the hearing-impaired.

RENT

Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh - Family Stabilization Housing Assistance

Provides grant assistance of up to $750 prevent eviction or assist homeless and near-homeless families of Allegheny County. Not an emergency service, HAP makes available one-time grants to the landlord on behalf of the client to aid in establishing and maintaining permanent, adequate and affordable housing. Also works with families moving from bridge to permanent housing.

Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh - Housing Assistance Program

Provides a grant of up to $500 to prevent eviction and/or assist homeless and near-homeless individuals in Allegheny County. Makes available one-time grants to the landlord on behalf of the client to aid in establishing and maintaining permanent, adequate and affordable housing. Also provides assistance with security deposits and first month's rent.

St. Vincent de Paul Tangible Aid

Helps individuals and families in designated service area with one-time needs and tangible assistance.
